SIZING THE GRETZ PITOT MAST
The Gretz pitot mast (linked here to Stein Air) comes with really good instructions. Follow them to save yourself some heartache down the line. There were just a few subtle items that I should have read twice that would have made my life easier. Oh well. Today started by delicately increasing the size of the opening on the mounting plate to accept the width of the mast. It came just a tiny bit larger in diameter than the opening of the mounting plate. This really wasn’t a problem. A little sanding on the mast and a couple of laps around the opening with a deburring wheel took care of it. Once all of the parts lined up nicely and sat flush on the wing, it was time to add the nut plates. Everything really started falling in to place at this point.
Another happy installation. The Gretz pitot mast continues to get good reviews from builders across the Van’s universe, so I am happy that I went with it. No other big updates for today. I’m getting ready for Oshkosh later this month, which is absolutely heaven on earth. Here’s hoping it goes smoothly!
